The inspiration for today’s Lil Loca. The original is Mi Vida Loca. This movie centered around the lives of young Mexican-American women living in Los Angeles. Written and Directed by Allison Anders (in 1994), she cast genuine gang bangers for the film. She also compiled her script from anecdotes from real girl gangs.

I loved this movie when it first came out. I thought that I wanted to be like these girls-tough, street smart and ‘vato’ crazy. I even dressed like them for a while during Junior High.

I haven’t seen this movie since the mid 90s. It wasn’t until I was at a friends house this past summer, in Florida, that it took me back. I saw it at her cousins house and demanded she bring it back to her house so we could all watch it.

I strongly reccomend you check this film out. And keep your eyes peeled for a young Salma Hayek.
